Concerts in the late 60s were often referred to as "Happenings". The fact that a band was playing was not always as important as the fact that it was like minded people gathering together to share in a common experience. In this painting I made the band smaller than the light show. It was often the whole package, the whole experience that was the most important element of the happening.
Then again, this is a painting of the band "the Doors" and there's really no way to diminish their presence on stage.
