Ferrari had been doing battle against the financial might of Ford (some sources put it at 100 million Ford money against Enzo's 125 thousand) for several years. This would be the year Ford finally won the 24 hour race with a 1-2-3 victory. Ferrari still won the World Championship, just lost this prestigious race.
